ORIGINAL POST Little Ringo was surrendered to Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. on March 6, 2006. He was diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosis (PDA). PDA is a common congenital heart problem in young dogs and occurs in infant humans as well. A blood vessel that should have closed when he was born did not. Because of this, double and triple loads of blood are delivered to one side of his little heart, making it work extra hard to get blood out to the rest of his body. Eventually this will cause heart failure. Without surgery it is likely he will not see his first birthday, and during that time his quality of life will drastically decline. If surgery is not performed immediately damage to his heart will make it impossible to save his life. The specialist feels Ringo is an excellent candidate for the surgery. Ringo is 5-months old, and the prognosis is very good for a successful recovery. This surgery is expected to cost between $3,000 to $3,500.

Update April 5, 2006 from foster mom: I wanted you all to know how GREAT our Little Ringo is doing. His staples were taken out yesterday, and his heart sounds like brand new. He loves playing with all the other fluffies, especially my little Francine, so he is not loving the idea of being confined for another two-weeks. He does sleep with me and the girls, though.
May, 2006: Ringo is now recovered and is ready to become a normal little Maltese like he was meant to be. He is a good boy who, will insist on sleeping with you, and equally insist on lots of love and affection. Ringo thrives on the attention of another little fluffy and would do well to be placed in a home with a furry companion who shares his fun and sparkling personality. Play, Play, Play is the program for each and every day. Ringo is a little behind in his house training because surgery set him back, but he is working on it. So he will need a home with a family with the patience to train him. Everyone who meets him can't help but fall in love with this little sweetie.
Ringo is now living a happy and spoiled life in California.
