"What's so special about a dog that you would drive to New York for her?" [from North Carolina] This was stated by a neighbor after finding out I adopted Kristi through the Northcentral Maltese Rescue group. Kristi has been such a great dog friend to my Bichon and a loving companion to me. She has also taught me that loving a puppy is a gift you give yourself; however, loving a rescue is a gift you give to a well-deserved older dog who truly needs your love. Now that is a special lesson that only a dog from New York could have taught me after years of only loving dogs that I had owned from puppyhood. Many thanks to George Bailey, one of the organization's coordinators, and Kristi's foster mom, Rita, for their role in bringing this special, loving dog to me.
Note from Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Sunday, May 28, 2006: Kristy died this morning of Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. She only started showing any kind of problem on Wednesday. The vet told her it was not time to worry yet, but Kristy was very sick. It took her much faster than anybody thought. She was only eight.
Emile loved this dog. She is devastated.
