You may remember the Charlie who was listed on our Available Dogs page in August, 2005.
September 5, 2005: Yesterday, Charlie, Tuffy, Glory and I went for a walk in the woods on our mid-morning stroll and as always I threw Charlie's ball up ahead so he can run -grab-and return to me so we can do it all over again. On my umpteen-millionth throw of the ball, Charlie ran in to some tall brushes to retrieve but did not come out. Charlie started barking where he was so we went over to see if he might have lost his ball. To my surprise, Charlie was standing over a mother cat and some 1 week old babies. It was sad because they where all dead, so I went home to get a shovel to bury them all and took Charlie with me because he seemed so upset by the whole experience.
When Charlie and I got back, I started digging a hole and talking to Charlie about this when I turn to see Charlie pick up one of the kittens and start to lick and clean it, that's when it started to move and cry. I checked the others to see if they where living as well but no! they where all gone except the one by now Charlie was carrying home. Long story short....the kitten is 1-2 weeks old and Charlie is the primary care taker of Kiki. Charlie, cleans her, sleeps by her and when ever she cries is the first one there, always checking on her and mothering her. I have read about this but this is a first for me.
