VOLUNTEERING
Our Rescue cannot survive and continue to help Maltese in need without the valuable help of a dedicated volunteer force. These people are willing to donate their time and a little bit of effort to support our rescue cause. This is one area where your work really can make a difference, and you will feel the warmth and satisfaction that comes with knowing you have contributed to the happiness of one little dog. We are headquartered in South East Wisconsin, but we have nationwide coverage and have received dogs from California to Maine, from Texas to Florida and from Washington State and everywhere in between . So where ever you are located, there may come a time when we may need to call on you for help. Below are just a few of the very important volunteer services you can provide:
PROVIDING A FOSTER HOME
Foster care is one of the most important functions of any rescue. These homes serve as "half-way houses" for our Maltese. This will often involve trips to the veterinarian, house training and socializing among other things. While many of our dogs come from private homes, a few come from a place where they have been neglected, abused or denied much human contact. These dogs may be sick, and/or fearful, and they may need personal care and attention to recover from their stressful life before they are ready to be placed. However, dogs such as these are never placed with new foster parents. Almost all of the dogs that come to Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. are given a thorough check-up by a veterinarian. Some are in need of immediate veterinary care and immunizations, and others just need to adjust to a new family life and having people or pets around. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered before they leave foster care. A foster family provides a warm, loving temporary home for the Maltese while they are recovering from surgery, adjusting to the "outside" world, or just waiting to be placed.
The job of fostering may be short term and easy, or long term and challenging, depending on the needs of the dog, but it is always rewarding to see these little white fluffies gain their confidence and exert their personalities while in your care. You know you are helping these dogs adjust to a new life, and you are giving them a great base from which to start the bright days of their future.
Providing foster care can be demanding, but it is the most worthwhile contribution you can make. If you live anywhere in the United States and are interested in providing a foster home for Maltese rescue dogs, please fill out the Northcentral Maltese Rescue, Inc. DONATIONS
In addition to your time we also welcome all donations that will help us complete our mission. Obviously there is always the need for money, as veterinary bills can run into the hundreds or even thousands of dollars for some dogs. Occasionally we may have to put out a special call for funds to cover the expenses of a special needs dog. But there are numerous other items that can be donated, also. Some of these are:

Coupons for or bags of quality dog food for our rescues

Stamps for those letters we must send out

Phone cards for the many telephone calls we have to make

Gasoline Gift Card

Gift certificates for use at a local pet store

Yearly charitable donations

Donating in memory of a loved one or a dog that has passed

Airline miles to transport dogs
